One of the biggest names in betting is preparing its Indiana launch.
WynnBET, the casino and sports betting app of Wynn Resorts, has increased its market access to include Indiana. This means Hoosier bettors will soon have access to the app.
The company has not revealed an expected launch date.
Still, the announcement highlights both the expansive, incoming growth of WynnBET and the likelihood that 2021 will represent another year of strength for Indiana’s sports betting industry.
Indiana one of many targets for Wynn
WynnBET is currently available in New Jersey and Colorado, and will launch in Michigan on Friday.
It plans to expand to the following states in the coming months:
Wynn has described its app as “built on a foundation of highly social sports betting technology and one-of-a-kind experiences so that wagering and winning can be a celebrated and shared experience.” Much of the social aspect comes from its previous acquisition of BetBull.
To operate in Indiana, Wynn will utilize its partnership with Full House Resorts, which owns Rising Star Casino.
WynnBET’s partnership with Rising Star satisfies the state’s requirement that mobile operations be tied to a brick-and-mortar casino.
Wynn does not own any Indiana properties. The company needed a casino partnership to expand into the state.
Rising Star should benefit from the relationship as well. The casino has seen disappointing results during its initial foray into online sports betting with BetAmerica.
WynnBET will provide a clean slate of sorts and provide a more recognizable brand name than BetAmerica.
Wynn has recently expanded its partnership with gaming and lottery provider Scientific Games, further laying the groundwork for the company’s most recent announcement and its eventual Indiana launch.
WynnBET is also hoping to take advantage of the potential legalization of online casino gaming during the Indiana Legislature’s 2021 session. Wynn and Scientific Games already have experience in the online casino marketplace in New Jersey.
Legislation that would allow casinos and racinos in Indiana to offer online poker and casino games has been filed. Hope exists that it will pass before the session’s end.
Exactly when will WynnBET launch in Indiana?
Hoosier bettors should have access to WynnBET this year, although the company’s target date is unknown.
WynnBET secured market access in Indiana and is “poised for rapid expansion in 2021,” according to public statements. The company did not provide further timing details.
Wynn Assistant Director of Public Relations Eric Kreller told INBetting on Wednesday that he expects additional information to be available within the next two weeks.
Such information is likely to include a more specific timeline and particulars about the regulatory process.
It will also put into clearer detail the race to become Indiana’s next sportsbook.
After six sportsbooks launched in 2020, industry watchers expect another year of growth in the state. Overall, Indiana sports 10 online betting apps, a robust offering that has helped the state continually shatter sports-wagering records.
The most highly-anticipated sportsbook expected to launch an app in 2021, especially among younger bettors, is Barstool Sportsbook.
Through Penn National Gaming, Barstool has already opened two brick-and-mortar sites in Indiana, at Ameristar East Chicago and Hollywood Lawrenceburg.
888sport and SBK Sportsbook, another Rising Star partner, also plan to launch apps in coming months.
