Big Ten Football Returns With Slate Of Games, Sportsbook Promos

From free bets to boosted odds, Indiana sportsbooks aren’t holding back when it comes to the latest Big Ten football promos.

Rejoice, Indiana! Saturday will, for the first time this season, include Big Ten football. Indiana’s online betting apps have released a new batch of Big Ten promos to celebrate the occasion.

The road to this point has been a long and rocky one, but the wait is finally over.

What awaits Big Ten fans this weekend?

The first Big Ten football game takes place at 8 p.m. on Friday when Illinois visits Wisconsin. The game will air on the Big Ten Network.

Wisconsin comes into the game as -19.5 favorites on DraftKings.

A mix of mismatches and competitive conference games will follow on Saturday.

Those include Ohio State starting as 26-point favorites against Nebraska. On the other side, Michigan (-3) squares up against Minnesota and Iowa (-3) takes on Purdue.

On upset watch is Penn State. The team comes in as 6-point favorites Saturday on its way to Bloomington to face a formidable Indiana University squad.

In general, though, there isn’t much drama about who is expected to win the Big Ten.

Leading DraftKings’ odds to win the conference championship is, unsurprisingly, Ohio State:

  • Ohio State: -400
  • Penn State: +550
  • Wisconsin: +600
  • Michigan: +2000
  • Minnesota: +2000
  • Iowa: +3300

The bottom half of the conference ranges from Nebraska at +6000 to Rutgers at +50000.

Ohio State QB Justin Fields, meanwhile, is the conference’s highest-ranked player to win the Heisman Trophy, at +600.

Penn State QB Sean Clifford is the next most-likely Big Ten candidate at +5000.

Big Ten promos present for Midwest bettors

DraftKings bet $1, win $100

Like usual, sportsbooks are working to draw in an audience during a special football weekend.

Smart bettors can take advantage.

New users on DraftKings can bet just $1 on who they think will win the Michigan-Minnesota game – and win $100 in return.

Michigan is currently a -152 moneyline favorite.

So instead of potentially getting 66 cents back for their bet, fans can risk $1 for 100-1 odds.

New users just have to make their first deposit of $5 or more. Next, pick the game from the 100-1 page, found through “Rewards” and then “Promotions”.

Apply the boost to the betslip, pick a team, and hope for the best.

BetMGM free bets, PointsBet boosted odds

On the other hand, any BetMGM user who bets $25 on a Big Ten game this weekend will receive a $10 free bet.

PointsBet, meanwhile, is offering boosted odds for Indiana and Purdue in their first-week matchups. Odds for each team to cover have been bumped from -110 to +120.

The sportsbook is also putting out its usual new-user promos.

For instance, new bettors in Indiana can bet $20 and win $125 if Wisconsin scores versus Illinois, a near guarantee.

A sigh of relief for Hoosier sportsbooks

The Big Ten’s return is a weekend of celebration for Indiana and the Midwest.

And it’s something many didn’t think would happen after schedule delays and postponements related to COVID-19.

Many in the region are happy to watch the SEC, Big 12, and others battle, but nothing compares to the Big Ten.

Regionalism and local pride in the Midwest rivals the south’s similar traits.

A return of Big Ten football, even a watered-down version, is something likely to be good news for sportsbooks.

While Notre Dame has been playing since Sept. 12 as the state’s most popular football team, its overriding influence begins to dissipate in West Lafayette and to the south.

Now, diehard fans of Purdue and IU, and nearby powerhouses like Michigan and Ohio State, will again have a reason to lay big bets on Saturdays.

This could lead to October breaking September’s record-setting handle for Indiana sportsbooks.
